Make the 2-mile walk down to impressive Aira Force, then catch one of the famous Ullswater steamers. Disembark in Pooley Bridge for a cup of tea and slice of cake. To browse in independent shops, boutiques and market stalls, head to Keswick or Penrith, both about 11 miles away. Find cafes, restaurants and pubs in both lively hubs: hire a boat on Derwentwater from Keswick and see the castle ruins in Penrith.
Wander into this charming cottage from the back and find yourselves in the light-filled lounge/diner, with its sloping ceilings.
