It is also home to Stokesay Castle, one of England’s best-preserved fortified manor houses, with its impressive gatehouse, timber-framed interiors and lovely grounds. For a bigger day out, Ludlow is within easy reach, known for its independent food shops, market, excellent restaurants and handsome historic centre.
Walkers will be spoilt for choice, with the Shropshire Hills, Long Mynd and Carding Mill Valley all within reach for a more adventurous day out. Equally, this is a lovely place to do very little: enjoy the garden, listen to the river and settle in by the fire after a day spent exploring.
