Beyond the lovely cottage and garden, the paddocks reveal your holiday’s greatest feature: a haven for rescue animals, including delightful donkeys, free-ranging chickens, and wild Dartmoor ponies, and you are welcome to help care for and feed them under the owners’ supervision. It’s a real joy to get involved and having the opportunity to learn about projects such as wilding and permaculture, in a place where caring for nature and the environment is paramount, makes this a truly memorable holiday.
As the name suggests, Apple Store Cottage was once used to store apples from the orchard. Its unique features, many carefully and crafted by the owners from unwanted materials, make the cottage spacious but cosy. The well-equipped kitchen-diner is supplemented by a relaxing living room—perfect for chatting after dinner—and delightful reading nook. There is a ground-floor double bedroom and ground floor shower room with toilet, and the living room also on the ground floor offers full Fibre broadband. On the first floor, a further double bedroom with wonderful window seats, and twin room with textured stone walls and exposed beams await, where a good night’s sleep is a welcome end to a busy day of adventures. The outside patio is ideal for watching the star-studded night sky, enjoying a morning coffee or an al fresco dinner and is a real sun trap. Guests are also welcome to use the large outdoor eating area and garden, explore the 25 acres of meadows and hill, and laze by the freshwater wildlife pond.
The nearby village of Quethiock has a medieval church and village hall, while the larger market town of Liskeard is a short distance away by car. Golitha Falls and its spectacular waterfalls, atmospheric Bodmin, and the bustling towns of Looe and Polperro, a village once a smugglers paradise and steeped in history, are all within short drives. The choice of south coast beaches is plentiful and varied, with long stretches of sand, coves, inlets, and rock pools at low tide. The historic Naval city of Plymouth is just 16 miles away, with marinas and attractions … or you can just relax, recharge, and take in the superb surroundings of this magical holiday home.
