Within a 5-minute walk from the cottage is Ventnor, a Victorian seaside town with a sandy beach and fishing harbour where you can buy fresh fish. The town offers a varied range of shops, cafés, pubs and restaurants, some with live music. A walk along the beautiful coastal path, which runs from Ventnor to Sandown, brings you to Steephill Cove, with no road access, this is one of the prettiest coves on the island. Nearby are the Botanical Gardens, which house a sub-tropical and exotic plant collection, with plants from around the world. Take the coastal path east and you will find yourself following the sea wall to the pretty village of Bonchurch, where Charles Dickens is said to have written part of ’David Copperfield’. The beach here is excellent and at low tide there are plenty of rock pools to explore. Beach ¼ mile. Shop, pub and restaurant ¼ mile.
