To the east is the magnificent coastline of Northumberland, which is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with great trips to be had to Bamburgh Castle, Holy Island of Lindisfarne, Seahouses harbour, or the birdwatcher’s paradise of The Farne Islands. For those who want day trips further afield there are regular trains from Berwick-Upon-Tweed that will take you to Edinburgh or Newcastle in an hour.
