A well-equipped massive front to back kitchen diner is an outstanding feature of the building and there are two big living rooms with large screen satellite TVs. There is solid wood flooring on the upper three floors, and the house is decorated and furnished in a contemporary but sympathetic style.
The property has high ceilings with chandeliers, fine cornicing and ceiling roses and a lovely carved staircase. It was built around 1883 on the site of Ventnor Mill. A blue plaque commemorates Sir Edward and Alice Elgar spending their honeymoon on the first floor of this house in May 1889. From the house Sir Edward wrote to a friend “We are liking this place very much and have nice rooms overlooking the sea…”
