Often used as the starting point for divers, the charming Victorian wooden pier is a great place to stroll or try fishing while taking in the sights of the city below. To get to Corfe Castle, tourists take a 6-mile journey on the historic Swanage Railway, which has its terminus in the town and offers regular nostalgic steam engine trips. Coastal walks, dolphin sightings, and wildlife viewing are just some of the highlights at the nearby Durlston Country Park. There are also comfortable viewing platforms and a well-stocked cafe for refuelling after all that exercise and fresh air. Taking the regular chain ferry across Poole Harbour's mouth to Sandbanks from Studland (a short drive away) and the surrounding heathland will take you to one of the best beaches in the country.
