Nestled below Skiddaw and within a short walk from the lake which the village takes its name, Bassenthwaite is the perfect base for exploring the northern Lake District with activities and attractions on the doorstep. Dodd Wood, Ashness Bridge, Whinlatter Forest, Go Ape and the Lake District Wildlife Park are all within a short drive. The market town of Keswick and Derwentwaiter are a 20 minute drive with shops, pubs and restaurants along with attractions for young and old, the Puzzling Place and Pencil Museum are worth a visit. There is walking from the door, head over the Caldbeck fells and explore the nearby villages of Ireby and Uldale or explore some of the Wainwrights surrounding the village including Skiddaw, Helvellyn, Catbells and Latrigg.

The upside down cottage is located on the owners working hill farm 2 miles south east of Bassenthwaite, the upstairs living area benefits from fell views and exposed beams adding to the character.
