Positive: Reception staff were very friendly, informative and professional. Lovely Christmas decorations. Our room was wonderful, really grand and magical, there was a wee dram offered (although we don't drink whiskey), the book cabinet had books which are hundreds of years old - really fascinating. The grounds were lovely, with lots of ducks and swans in the ponds. The old bar cave was pretty special, we liked hearing about the hotel's history from reception. A limited but tasty menu and good breakfast selection. And lastly, a very good cocktail selection.

Negative: Room was a little cold on arrival and took time to heat up. Bathroom is a little dated, but we were told that they are due renovations. TV in the room is on the small side. Room was above dining hall and could hear staff setting up breakfast in the early hours. Dining server(s) were a little awkward. Starter was served before we received our drinks. Didn't feel that the food quality matched the cost.
