The Duck House - Three Bedroom House, Sleeps 5 | House in Braithwaite
3 Bedroom House in Braithwaite
Located in the pretty village of Braithwaite, just a couple of miles from the market town of Keswick. The Duck House is a well-proportioned, detached bungalow set in a private cul- de-sac. Providing quality accommodation, it takes its name from the family of ducks, known to the owners as Donald and Daphne, that bob up and down the babbling beck that runs to the rear of the cottage. With a bright lounge/dining room with patio doors to the garden, three bedrooms including one with a luxurious en-suite shower room, family bathroom and kitchen, The Duck House offers ground floor accommodation throughout, and to the rear of the property the large patio with well planted borders is a real delight and a fantastic sun trap on a summer's afternoon. Set at the foot of the Newland's Valley, The Duck House offers easy access to the stunning scenery of the north western Lake District with the breath taking scenery of the beautiful Buttermere Valley a simple 15 minute drive away. It is also in easy reach of Bassenthwaite Lake (home to a family of Ospreys). For those wanting to enjoy the great outdoors there are numerous walks from the village, from gentle walks through the valley to the high fells of Grizedale Pike and the Coledale Horseshoe. Those seeking thrills on two wheels will enjoy the award winning Altura Trails in Whinlatter Forest just to the north of the village. Within the village there are two great local pubs; the Royal Oak and the Coledale Inn, both of which serve hearty local food and are ideal after a day on the fells. The popular Middle Ruddings Country Inn, at the northern end of the village, is a short walk away and its varied menu is popular with locals and visitors alike. == Accommodation in detail Passing through the village of Brathwaite, The Duck House is located in a quiet, private cul-de-sac just past the Village shop with private parking for three cars to the side of the property. The front door opens to the hallway with a cloakroom cupboard ideal for coats and outdoor gear. This hallway then runs the length of the cottage connecting all the rooms. The triple aspect lounge is bright and airy and offers views across the village to the hills beyond. Well furnished with comfortable sofas and armchair in addition to a large family dining table. On warmer days the patio doors open onto the garden; on cooler evenings relax with a film in front of the cosy log burning stove. The kitchen includes fitted units with locally sourced Lakeland green slate worktops. The kitchen is equipped with a five ring gas hob, electric oven, dishwasher and under counter fridge and separate freezer. The kitchen is finished with a small breakfast bar and a utility cupboard is home to the washing machine and tumble drier. From the kitchen, a small sun room with wicker armchairs is the ideal place to enjoy a good book, the morning papers and the view up to the fells. The cottage offers a choice of three bedrooms. The bright and spacious master bedroom offers a welcoming king size bed and accompanying en-suite luxury shower room with massage jet walk in shower, basin and WC. The second bedroom is offered with either a king size double bed or two 2'6 twin beds (please specify your preference when booking) and a final pretty single room. The bedrooms are complemented by a family bathroom with bath with shower over, basin and WC. To the rear of the property there is a spacious patio, with well planted borders and tubs. With garden furniture the patio is just the spot to sit and relax to the sound of the murmuring beck as it flows by or to enjoy an alfresco lunch on a summer's afternoon. The owners welcome up to two well behaved, medium size dogs. Guests should note the garden is not enclosed, but there is excellent dog walking close to the cottage. Parents are respectfully reminded that Chaplin's Beck flows swiftly past the patio area and so young children should not be left unattended in the garden.
