There is a security deposit of £250. Sorry, no hen/stag parties.. Wardlaw House is a B-Listed former Manse built in 1776. It has historic links with the Jacobite Rebellion, most notably because to the rear of the house is the A-Listed Wardlaw Mausoleum which is the final resting place of Simon Fraser of Lovat, also known as The Old Fox. Outlander fans will recognise this name as The Old Fox was portrayed as Jamie Fraser's grandfather. Many members of the Outlander cast have visited the Mausoleum and so too Has Diana Gabaldon the author, all as part of research for the series. You can stroll up the lane and visit this amazing, historic place as many times as you wish. Built only 30 years after the Battle of Culloden, Wardlaw House has many original Georgian features that you will keep noticing as you spend time at the property. The house truly is one of the most amazing and memorable places to stay in the Scottish Highlands due to its 18th century origins and ties to the Jacobite Rebellion.
By booking and staying at Wardlaw House you'll be stepping back in time - albeit with modern comforts, unlike Claire in Outlander, to enjoy a special and unique holiday in the Highlands. This property has also been awarded 5* by the Scottish Tourist Board. Arriving at the property you're immediately taken aback by the house's good looks. The drive sweeps up hill through the mature country style front garden to a large area in front of the three-storey house. You honestly won't believe your luck as you step out of the car. The house and gardens are exquisite thanks to such hard work by the owners. The Doric Portico beckons you into the spacious entrance hallway. You will immediately notice the first original feature that is present throughout: the 18th century cornicing. To the right of the hallway is the drawing room which is now the living/dining room. It has a huge wood burner and truly magnificent floor to ceiling windows which allow the beautiful gardens to become part of this room. Back to the hallway, there's a walkway under the stairs that leads to what was the original Manse gun cupboard. The owners have converted the space into a spacious cloakroom. There's a wide galley kitchen here too and you will find everything you'll need to cook up meals for the entire family. Again returning to the hallway the pitch pine original staircase leads you to the first floor where there's a double-aspect family room with a double bed and single; a single bedroom above the Doric Portico enjoying views of the gardens; and there's a spacious double-aspect double bedroom with a Harrods four-poster kingsize bed. You will notice all bedrooms have original interior window shutters and service call bells. The bathroom is truly unique with a 120 year cast iron free-standing bath and rainforest shower.
Returning to the 1.4 acre gardens the first feature that stands out is the gigantic three-pronged Cedar tree which is older than the house. A family of red squirrels have chosen the tree as their home and you can spot them playing and feeding daily. The front garden is simply stunning with many interesting species of plant and places to sit throughout to savour this peaceful spot. Wardlaw House is very well located in the Highlands so that when you do pull yourself away from the amazing place you can easily explore some famous spots nearby. Culloden Battlefield, Cawdor Castle and Loch Ness, the name a few, are all nearby. Inverness as well as the beautiful Black Isle are also only a short drive away. Wardlaw House is honestly the ideal Highland holiday home.
