Just 2 miles away is Gunnerside Gill, a rocky walk where you can see the ruins which tell a story of the area’s mining history, lying amongst the riverside meadows and the dramatic beauty of the landscape. For a slower paced day, head to Hawes (11 miles) to indulge in tasty treats at a tearoom, or pick up fine local produce at their weekly markets.
