Wake up to the dawn chorus and mist rolling in the valley below, to spectacular sunrises and panoramic view over the Cornwall's hidden gem, the Tamar Valley.
A unique, detached, spacious, light, open-plan 3 bedroomed cottage sleeping 6, perched high above the River Tamar with spectacular 180 degree panoramic views towards Morwell Rocks in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Half an acre of terraced gardens are at your disposal to enjoy and relax in.
There is a feeling of isolation and tranquility yet you are only 10 minutes walk (downhill !) from the idyllic riverside village of Calstock where Dawn French’s TV series “Delicious” is filmed. From Harewood Cottage there is a extensive network of riverside and woodland footpaths and quiet country lanes leading to the National Trust property of Cotehele and beyond. If walking is not your thing its just 2 minutes in the car down to the village where there is plentiful free parking adjacent to the village hall.
If its an action packed family holiday you are looking for or simply a place to while away the time then this is the place for you.
Harewood Cottage is tastefully furnished and has recently been decorated.
GROUND FLOOR:
The kitchen is well equipped with a large electric oven, gas hob, microwave/convection oven, fridge, freezer, (regret no dishwasher) and washing machine located in nearby outbuilding.
Open plan with the kitchen is the dining area, a table to seat 6, a two seater leather settee, rocking chair and a piano. Patio doors open onto the garden, with amazing views.
Double doors lead to a cosy lounge with a leather suite, 42" HD TV, DVD player, HiFi and small woodburner to take the chill off in the evening.
Downstairs WC & Shower, Rear lobby with storage for coats & boots.
FIRST FLOOR:
Very large dual aspect bedroom with Super King sized bed, incredible views and patio doors opening onto the balcony.
Large twin bedroom overlooking the front cottage garden.
Smaller double room with views over the garden.
Bathroom with over-bath shower, basin.
Separate WC.
OUTSIDE:
A washing machine is available for use by arrangement.
It is located in an adjacent outbuilding.
Extensive terraced gardens with outside seating, tables and chimenea. The gardens are well stocked, we have a regular gardener who looks after our pretty "cottage garden" so you may see her around but she will respect your privacy.
During the summer months the owners live next door in their woodland chalet and are often available for advice.
There will be a "Welcome Pack" on your arrival so you can just relax after your long journey.
Private off-road parking for up to 2 cars.
Calstock has a vibrant Arts Centre and village hall, 2 pubs with good food and regular music, an art gallery, cafe, Italian ice cream parlour and Well Being Centre.
Calstock has a quay, pontoon and slipway. When the tide is in the River Tamar is perfect for kayaking or paddle boarding. We have a couple of kayaks which with prior arrangement you would be welcome to use (AT YOUR OWN RISK !)
Mountain bikers regularly pass this way as trails lead through local woodland. For the more adventurous down hill bikers Tamar Trails close to Gunnislake has an extensive network of free tracks.
The nearest big supermarkets, banks etc are in Callington (5 miles) or Tavistock (6 miles), but a good local store and filling station is only a mile away. Gunnislake is a couple of miles away with a good butcher and doctors' surgery.
Dartmoor National Park is only a 20 minute drive away. With its rolling hills and craggy tors offers excellent walking, cycling, mountain biking, horse riding and wild swimming, not to mention its numerous country pubs and tea rooms.
45 minutes in a car and you could be surfing on a beach or walking along the spectacular North or South Cornish coastal path.
6 miles to the east of Calstock is Tavistock with it fascinating old market, numerous coffee shops and many independent traders, it's a wonderful place to while away the time.
If it's cities you want, then Plymouth is just over half an hours drive away or you could walk down the hill to the station and enjoy the lovely 35 minute train journey to the centre of Plymouth.
As well as all the amenities that you'd expect of a modern city, Plymouth has the advantage of being on the coast & here you can enjoy the beautiful Plymouth Hoe. It was here that Sir Francis Drake played his infamous bowls match as the Spanish Armada approached. A short walk away is The Barbican, with its busy harbour, cobbled streets, narrow lanes, the National Aquarium & of course the Mayflower Steps, where on the 6th September 1620 the Pilgrim Fathers departed for America.
In 1813, the artist Turner toured the Tamar Valley and sketched the famous Morwell Rocks from the exact location of Harewood Cottage. Every day we stop a while, look at the view and say "incredible".

Mobile phone coverage in this area is not particularly good, but depending on network there is a signal at Harewood Cottage.
At the far end of the garden, 50 metres from the house is the woodland apiary. This is clearly signed and best avoided unless you are a beekeeper.
