The village of Cartmel with its racecourse, fine dining, excellent pubs and quirky shops is a 5-minute drive away or, if you are feeling energetic, a 45 minute walk over Hampsfell Hill. Grange over Sands railway station is a 5 minute walk away (through the woods) or 8 minutes along the road, the train goes round the bay to Arnside, Morecambe and Lancaster, trains from Euston station can reach Grange in under 3 hours with one change at Lancaster.
